In one of the most exciting games of the season, the University of Houston women's basketball team claimed the conference championship with a dramatic overtime victory that will be remembered for years to come. Trailing by eight points with under three minutes remaining in regulation, the Lady Cougars mounted a furious comeback fueled by suffocating full-court pressure defense and clutch free-throw shooting. A three-pointer at the buzzer sent the game to overtime, and Houston never looked back. In the extra period, Houston outscored their opponents 14-6, led by a dominant performance from the senior center who recorded a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Her presence in the paint was the difference-maker, as she scored eight of Houston's 14 overtime points. "I've never been prouder of a group," said Head Coach. "They refused to quit. That's the character of this team." The victory clinches an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the women's program, which has seen tremendous growth in recent years. Attendance at home games has increased by 40% this season, reflecting the community's growing support for women's athletics at UH. The team's success has been built on a foundation of defensive excellence and balanced scoring. Seven different players have led the team in scoring at some point this season, making them incredibly difficult to game-plan against.
