The University of Houston softball team is having a season for the ages, shattering the program's single-season home run record with still a month of regular season play remaining.
With 87 home runs through 40 games, the Cougars have surpassed the previous record of 78 set in 2019, and they show no signs of slowing down. The power surge has been a team-wide effort, with seven different players hitting five or more home runs this season.
Leading the charge is the junior first baseman, who has launched 18 home runs with a .385 batting average and a slugging percentage north of .800. Her opposite-field power has been particularly impressive, with several of her homers clearing the fence in right-center field.
"We've worked really hard on our approach at the plate," said Head Coach. "It's not just about hitting home runs — it's about quality at-bats. The power numbers are a byproduct of our hitters being disciplined and aggressive on their pitch."
The offensive explosion has fueled a 32-8 record and a No. 15 national ranking, the highest in program history. The Cougars are drawing national attention not just for their hitting but for their balanced approach — they also lead the conference in on-base percentage and stolen bases.
Home games at Cougar Softball Stadium have become must-see events, with attendance nearly doubling from last season. The energy in the stands has become a genuine home-field advantage.
With the AAC Tournament and a potential NCAA Tournament bid on the horizon, this Houston softball team has the firepower to make a deep postseason run.
