Houston’s 2027 commits already know where they’re playing next fall. This weekend they find out how much of this fall they’ll get to keep.

A share of the district title is on the line in Rosenberg, and another is available in Shadow Creek. A playoff berth is on the table in Crosby, and a postseason race is on in Cypress Springs. By the end of October, the tape is out and nothing is a surprise, so the games come down to who executes when the opponent knows what’s coming. A scholarship doesn’t help with that.

Coogs 365 Sports | Cap-Tex Game of the Week

Angleton at Randle

Friday, 7 p.m. | Traylor Stadium, Rosenberg | IOL Samuel Thiergood

Randle and Angleton arrive with a share of the district title on the table, and both know what a loss costs.

Randle has been overwhelming. Six of its wins came by 42 points or more, and Landen Williams-Callis ran for 257 yards and three touchdowns against Freeman. Angleton wants to grind. Jayden Moore carried for 104 yards last time out, and the Wildcats’ defense piled up three sacks against Friendswood.

Why it’s the pick: Both teams run the ball well, so the interior line decides the game. Whoever controls the line of scrimmage controls the clock, the down-and-distance and the tempo.

What to circle: Thiergood against a front that includes Ma’Chai Williams and Emanuel Rodriguez. Don’t judge him on the pancake. Watch the rep after his first move fails. Does he reset his feet, keep his hands inside and stay square to the defender? Does he finish the play without a holding flag? Great linemen win with technique on the plays nobody highlights.

Game To Circle

2. Pearland at Shadow Creek
Friday, 7 p.m. | Freedom Field | LB Kamryn Harris
Stakes: A road win gives Pearland a share of the district title.
Circle: Shadow Creek will make a defense cover ground from sideline to sideline, so Harris has to turn his eyes into his feet in a hurry. How fast does he go from the pre-snap look to the gap he’s responsible for? Linebackers who hesitate end up making tackles eight yards past the point where the play should have been stopped.

3. Atascocita at Crosby
Friday, 7 p.m. | Crosby High School | Secondary Tavon Bolden
Stakes: A win clinches a playoff berth for Atascocita.
Circle: Crosby will hunt for big plays once a snap breaks off script, and that’s where Bolden has to stay disciplined. Watch his depth and eyes in the deep third. He should not bite on a pump fake or leave his zone because a receiver is working open somewhere else. The best defensive backs are the ones who don’t give up the big play.

4. Fulshear at Cypress Springs
Saturday, 6 p.m. | Pridgeon Stadium | CB Kameron Roberson
Stakes: Both teams are in the middle of a playoff race.
Circle: Cypress Springs pushes the pace, and defensive backs get almost no time to think. Roberson’s test comes right after the first catch he gives up. Does he recover physically and mentally, or does the next snap start with a mistake? Cornerbacks have to be able to forget the last play.

Also on the board

Friday: DL Raiden Cook and Barbers Hill take on Deer Park. WR Marcus Watson Jr. and S Marvin Joseph face Liberty Magnet in Central, Louisiana.

Thursday: QB Braden Baker’s Cypress Ranch beat Foster 62–27, and Mo Poko’s Jordan team beat Seven Lakes 76–14. Those are team results, and individual production still needs a verified stat report or film review.

The bottom line

The scoreboard will tell you who won. The film will tell you who’s ready. By Sunday, Houston’s commits will have the highlights and the final scores, but the better question is who executed when the opponent adjusted and whose technique held on the last snap. Behind every one of them is a family that made the drives, bought the tickets and held its breath on third down. Cap-Tex Holdings, is in the business of protecting families, and this weekend that’s who fills the stands. The scholarship is signed. The season is not finished, and neither is the evaluation.
